Seeing that it is the 7th of April I have really been wondering where the heck spring is. Here we have lots of snow, cold weather, and no real spring in sight. The bad news is that Winnipeg is located south of a large lake (also called Winnipeg), which is fed primarily by the Red River. The Red River flows north into Manitoba at border with North Dakota, and really is the middle of the basin of a former inland sea. Therefore each year a whole lot of water flows this way. The city where I live is protected by a massive flood way that is activated to divert the water around the city. Unfortunately all of the communities along the river are under threat of flooding and although they have been through it before it is never an easy time for them. So as much as I wish for warm weather, and even a cleansing rainstorm, we need to have a slow melt, and no more precipitation for a while.
I have just finished my last in my current run of watercolour flowers. Here is the entire series which I am quite proud of:
I have not sent the last one out just yet, but all of the others have gone to wonderful people, and I hope they are enjoyed, and end up in a great place to seen and appreciated. I had a great time doing them.
Now that I am done with the flowers, I am going to finish up a few other select projects, and look for a few new ones to try. My very next painting will be an acrylic that I had started earlier of a waterfall called Tulibi Falls. The falls are located in Nopiming Park, which is a favorite place for me to visit and to paint from.
I hope this journal finds everyone healthy and happy, and I wish everyone a great spring if you are lucky enough to have one.
